NORTH-SOUTH PARTNERSHIP FOR CHILDREN
“Altogether caring for one another and giving without expectation”
They say it takes a village to raise a child but what’s required to raise that child out of Third World conditions of poverty? We believe it takes a partnership. North-South Partnership for Children is a dynamic collaboration between philanthropic organizations, universities, and private citizens in Southern Ontario and thirty remote First Nations communities in northwestern Ontario. The objective is to find out what’s needed – in housing, in skills building, in recreational activity, in friendship – to open pathways of hope for the young people.
Ve’ahavta is a Canadian humanitarian and relief organization that is motivated by the Jewish value of tzedakah – the obligation to do justice – by assisting the needy locally and abroad through volunteerism, education, and acts of kindness, while building bridges between Jews and other peoples, worldwide. The cargo on the MJRH van contains survival necessities such as clothing, toiletries, eyeglasses, resource materials, sandwiches, hot coffee, and snacks. We also carry gift baskets of everyday necessities, provided by your participation in our Bnei Mitzvah and Simcha Basket programs. These are tools we use to accelerate the development of relationships with people society has all but forgotten. Ve’ahavta depends on our volunteers to help deliver this vital service. These synagogues include Adath Israel, Beth Tikvah, Beth Torah, Beth Tzedec, Beth Sholom, Pride of Israel and Temple Sinai.Staffed entirely by volunteers, Toronto's Intersynagogue Kosher Food Bank aims to provide wholesome food to the needy in our community in a dignified manner. The Pride of Israel food bank, which is strictly kosher, serves between 135 and 145 people per week. People donate strictly kosher food to the program by dropping it off at the synagogue office during business hours or by making cash donations.
